The obvious general answer is so you will get more vitamins and minerals in your diet, but what does it really mean. Red: the color of blood and associated with our heart. Red fruits and veggies are loaded with powerful antioxidants such as lycopene and anthocyanin that may help with fighting heart disease soaking up the free radicals in our system.

Red bell peppers, tomatoes, strawberries, watermelon

Orange: these happy gems are best known for their anti-inflammatory properties, generally high in the Vitamin C department.

Oranges, orange bell peppers, tangerines, sweet potatoes, carrots, apricots

Yellow: tissue repair and building. Our bodies are always working hard to stay on top of their game and that includes repairing and rebuilding tissues damaged by free radicals and acidic damaging foods we love to indulge in (fast food, pastries, pizza, soda, alcohol, caffeine, etc)

Blue and Purple: blue specifically known to nourish our stem cells and bone marrow; purples are protectors of both our central nervous system and our gut/digestion. Blue and purple foods are full of flavonoids which help to increase vitamin C levels in our cells, which will boost our immunity and help prevent rogue molecules that can alter DNA.
